SCV Forms and Publications
The SCV website has a very nice self help section where you can download and print for yourself commonly used forms as well as publications that are helpful to members and camp officers in the discharge of their duties. Please go to: http://www.scv.org/documents.php

2008 IRS Annual Electronic Notice Filing Requirement
SCV camps with gross receipts less than $25,000 a year are not required to file an IRS Form 990 tax return; however, beginning August 1, 2008, the day after the previous fiscal year ended, all camps are required to submit an annual electronic notice by December 15, 2008. Your cooperation is requested as it is imperative that every camp complete this simple task. Shown below are some simple instructions to assist you in completing the IRS E Notice requirement:

1.  Obtain your camp's tax ID number and copy it into your computer memory or have it written down and readily available. GHQ can provide this number to you if needed.

2.  Go to this site and follow the instructions: http://epostcard.form990.org/

Important Notice:  You must register first, and then be patient and wait for the IRS to immediately send you a return email with a link for you to log back on line to actually complete the E postcard. If you use zip plus four put a dash in between the first five and last four digits.

3. Take your time and carefully enter the numbers.  The entire process should not last more than about 5 to 10 minutes.

CV Magazine- The September October 2008 Confederate Veteran magazine will go into the bulk mail system approximately October 1, 2008. Please report address changes to the GHQ as soon as you know them to ensure your members receive their magazines in a timely manner.

Jefferson Davis Statue
The statue of Jefferson Davis and his two sons is nearing completion and fund raising is continuing to proceed less quickly than the work on the statue. The cost of the project is approximately $100,000, and the total contributions to date have reached $25,264. The Virginia Division has made the largest contribution of $5000, and the Fayetteville NC Arsenal Camp 168 has made a $2000 contribution. All division, camp and individual donors will be recognized, by categories of giving, in the Confederate Veteran magazine unless they specifically request to be anonymous. If you may have misplaced your CV magazine with the appeal from PCiC Christopher Sullivan, you may go to this site http://www.scv.org/pdf/DavisAppeal2008.pdf to obtain the contribution return form.

Friends of the SCV (FOSCV)
TheFOSCVis a terrific way to recognize persons who support the SCV, but do not meet the requirements to qualify as a member. The General Executive Council (GEC) has approved the "Friends of the SCV" concept which has now come to fruition. For a minimum initial donation of $40, the "Friend" receives a nice certificate suitable for framing, a FOSCV lapel pin and a one-year subscription to the Confederate Veteran magazine. Subsequent donations of $30 or more each year will maintain the CV subscription and friendship. Please note that "Friends" are not SCV members, may not exercise any rights of membership to include claiming to be members. The "Friends of the SCV" application may be accessed on the SCV website at this link: http://www.scv.org/pdf/FOSCV_MembershipApplication.pdf Camps which already have associate membership programs in place for their supporters who do not have Confederate ancestry are free to either participate in this program or continue their current system.

SCV Affinity Credit Card
The Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) and the Texas Independent Bank (TIB) had a mutually beneficial affinity credit card arrangement for the past nine years. TIB decided to not renew the contract and our business association terminated on April 30, 2008 which they claim is due to the small number of SCV card holders. The SCV hopes to have a new affinity card contract with a different bank in place within a couple of months, hopefully later in 2008. If you wish to continue to support the SCV through a new affinity card, please provide your name and address to SCV, P O Box 59, Columbia TN 38502-0059, by email to exedir@scv.org, or phone (800) 380-1896 ext 207.

Camp officer contact information
Please furnish the current email addresses for your Camp Commander and Adjutant to your Army secretary. If neither the Camp Commander nor Adjutant has an email address, please furnish an alternate email address to the GHQ. GHQ would also like to enter the email addresses of your camp's members. We have nearly 9000 email addresses in the database which is less than one third of our membership. Please furnish these to GHQ to enable us to more quickly communicate with the membership when time is of the essence.
